Hornady Manufacturing Company announced that it is upgrading its 7.62x39 cartridge in the line of Black Ammunition.
The change is going from steel to brass cases and it is effective immediately. This change to brass cases allows for reloaders to work with the cartridge to dial in a more precise load or find a favorite hunting load. 7.62x39 has few offerings on the market that are brass, boxer primed cases, so this is good news for reloaders.
The cartridge uses a 123 grain Super Shock Tip (SST) bullet with an advertised muzzle velocity of 2350 fps. The SST bullet is polymer tipped and designed for fast expansion on impact to create a large wound channel. The bullet is designed with an Interlock ring to keep the jacket and core together after impact retaining as much of the bullet weight and energy as possible.
The Black line of ammunition are cartridges designed for reliabe functioning and accuracy in a variety of rifles including modern sporting rifles and bolt action rifles. This is promising to be a premium cartridge that will offer variety to rifles chambered in 7.62x39mm.
