In late July of 2016 the Canadian Firearms Center issued a warning telling people that there are scammers trying to call people and collect firearms renewal fees. They're being very pushy, telling you that you have to renew right now or that you're going to lose your license and the calls seem to be so sophisticated that RCMP, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, can show up on your call display, this is a very sophisticated scam. Now while I think that this specific scam is a phishing operation, in other words they're calling people at random hoping that you give out information out of the goodness of your heart. However this brings to light the question of is it a good idea to have a database of firearms owners, their private information, where they live, and basically a shopping list for criminals?
