When I was looking for the perfect ‘CCW  insurance’ for myself, I came to notice that even as a full time firearms attorney, comparing the different CCW insurance options available was no walk in the park.

As I started to look at all the different policies in detail, there were a few contenders that came out pretty strong, and one of them stood out from the rest – CCW Safe.

What caught my attention was CCW Safe’s legal coverage (unlimited) for any concealed carry defense situation. The million-dollar question would probably be whether CCW Safe is worth it or not.

Here in our CCW Safe review, we’re going to look carefully into the details of its legal services and coverage that’s being provided.

After looking and comparing CCW Safe to all the other CCW insurance options, I picked CCW Safe as my number 1 personal choice.

Why Am I Qualified To Make a Review on CCW Insurance?

When it comes to concealed carry insurance policies, especially in the realm of firearms, it can feel pretty complicated if you have not spent the same amount of hours as I have.

I’m not just any Tom Dick and Harry that you see on Reddit Reviews. I am a firearms attorney and a licensed insurance agent in 48 states (except for NY and NJ). When it comes to legal knowledge, especially in the realm of insurance and concealed carry weapons, I know the ins and outs of it as it’s the primary part of my job.

I’ve spent countless hours going through all the legal documents to ensure what’s mentioned on CCW Safe’s site is not only correct but fully understood in terms of its context and not just on the surface level. There were even times when I sought clarity from CCW Safe for a couple of points so you can be rest assured that I know what I’m talking about.

What is CCW Safe?

CCW Safe is an organization that funds your legal protection when it comes to self defense shooting with concealed carry weapons. Although the services offered by them aren’t exactly ‘CCW Insurance’, it’s just easier to explain what they provide that way since this is a more commonly used term.

In case you didn’t know, self defense with your own firearm can come at a high cost. Imagine having to defend against a manslaughter or murder charge despite being in a self defense situation, you’re expected to pay at least a couple hundred thousand dollars.

Even if you think you did everything legally in the name of self defense, there’s still a high chance of you being prosecuted.

Ever wonder why we often tell people that learning to avoid a fight is better to win it? That’s because even if you do ‘win’ a fight, you still lose. This is the main reason why most people subscribe to a good concealed carry insurance plan. You never know when you’ll need it.

How Much Will CCW Safe Cost You?

CCW Safe’s plans are priced from $149 to $499 per year. The prices depend on the kind of legal coverage that you’re looking for. Your status as an ordinary CCW holder and/or First Responder will also make a difference in the rates you pay.

What Does CCW Safe Cover?

When signing up for ‘CCW insurance’, it’s important to understand what is and isn’t covered within the insurance policy.

Lucky for you, CCW Safe covers the three most important things I’ll be elaborating on below, so there’s actually not much to be worried about.

1. Unlimited Criminal Defense Protection

Even if you’re actually innocent, there’s still a high possibility of you being prosecuted. This essentially means you may still have to end up paying a couple hundred thousand of dollars to defend yourself despite being involved in a perfectly justified self defense situation with your concealed carry weapon.

Unlost most other concealed carry insurance providers, CCW Safe actually offers UNLIMITED criminal defense protection so you won’t have to worry about hitting an arbitrary limit as you attend trial.

2. Unlimited Civil Defense and Liability Coverage

Besides potential criminal defense costs, you will most likely have to defend yourself against civil lawsuits from the person you shot as well. This could include claims from them, their family, or any other related person.

In case you didn’t know, these civil lawsuit costs can much higher than your criminal costs. If you do happen to lose your civil lawsuit, you will have to pay for ‘damages’ to the plaintiff. This is widely known as civil liability.

Now, the million-dollar question: How much does CCW Safe cover for both civil defense cases and civil liability?

Answer: Unlimited! You heard that right. While most of its competitors set a cap on the civil defense and liability coverage, CCW Safe does not impose a limit.

3. Up Front Money

CCW Safe will provide all the money you need for your lawsuit up front. This is actually one of the most important feature and you should be avoiding any policy’s fine print that does not provide this.

Imagine having to sell your house to pay for legal defense costs! What good would the reimbursement cheque do you?

4. Bail

Nobody wants to stay in jail during trial, but bail money coverage can be too costly for some families. Lucky for you, CCW Safe will be providing up to $1.5 million in bail coverage, depending on the plan that you’re going for.

5. Per Diem Allowance (Compensate for Loss of Income)

If you think legal expenses, civil liability, and bail coverage are all that you need from a ‘CCW Insurance’ provider, you’re missing out on another important aspect.

In most cases, you will not be able to work on your job while attending trial. These could last for months in some extreme situations, and you need to be prepared to fork out a significant amount of money to cover for daily expenses.

Lucky for you, CCW Safe will pay you a ‘per diem’ allowance to cover your loss of income. Great news is that they’re very generous and will be covering up to $1,000 per day!

What Doesn’t It Include?

1. No Sales in Washington, New York, and New Jersey

Unfortunately, these states banned the sale of ‘CCW Insurance’ programs. Even though CCW Safe technically isn’t an insurance company, it falls within the widely known term ‘CCW Insurance’.

That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your CCW Insurance would be invalid if you happen to be visiting in these states. It just means that you cannot buy/subscribe to these programs if you reside in these states.

2. Training and Resources

Unlike USCCA’s rich training and educational resources, this isn’t CCW Safe’s focus for now.

Which Plan Should You Go For?

1. For Concealed Carry Permit Holders:

For CCW Permit holders, you’re probably going to want either the Protector, Defender, or Ultimate Plan (I picked this).

The defender and protector plan offers the same coverage. The only difference is that the protector plan comes with a slightly cheaper price and is only available for

  • Active/honorably discharged military
  • Active/retired law enforcement officers
  • Other credentialed first responders i.e. firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics with a concealed carry permit.

If you’re looking for basic legal coverage from your ‘self defense insurance’, the protector or defender plan should do the trick.

However, if you’re willing to pay a little more to gain access to all that CCW Safe has to offer, then you’d want to go with the ultimate plan, like I have!

The ultimate plan offers broader coverage with higher limits in multiple important areas such as bail-bond coverage, civil damage coverage, red flag law coverage, and additional benefits like coverage for volunteer church security teams and the Texas School Guardian Program.

The ultimate plan also provides higher reimbursement for loss of wages (per diem) and offers more licensed professional counselling sessions.

2. For Concealed Carrier in ‘Constitutional Carry’ States:

If you happen to live in a state that allows concealed carry without a permit AND so happen to not have a permit, then the Constitutional Carry Plan is likely the best choice for you.

3. For Home Coverage Only

If you’re not out and about carrying your concealed carry weapon and only want legal protection within your home premises, then the home defense plan will be just right for you.

CCW Safe Review: My Personal Opinion

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that not all CCW plans are the same. The offerings by CCW Safe stood out so much that it became clear to me that CCW Safe was the best ‘CCW Insurance’ option for me.

They have the best legal coverage available for concealed carry and this will be an excellent choice for most of you out there hence, they’ve earned my number 1 spot among all CCW Insurance providers.

What’s Great about CCW Safe?

The legal team and experience of CCW Safe are extremely capable. Although there’re other providers that also come with great legal support, CCW Safe is the only provider for concealed carry to successfully defend a concealed carry defense 1st degree murder case to my knowledge.

If this doesn’t give you the confidence in entrusting them when it comes to firearms legal protection, I don’t know what else will.

Where can CCW Safe Do Better?

Although CCW Safe allows you to pick your own lawyer, your attorney needs to be vetted through CCW Safe. As such, this is something that CCW Safe can work on as some of the other ‘CCW insurance’ company competitors do allow full autonomy in selecting your own lawyer.

That said, I do think that it’s not unreasonable for CCW to vet through the attorneys as they do offer unlimited legal coverage. As such, it would be reasonable for them to put in preventive measure of their ‘unlimited coverage’ being abused by certain parties.

Did I Choose CCW Safe?

If you’re looking for the best and most generous legal protection for concealed carry weapons, then CCW Insurance will be your top choice.

Personally, i went with CCW Safe as it fits all my needs and gave the best coverage at a reasonable price.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Unlimited Criminal Defense Coverage

Sometimes even when your gun use is justified as self defense, you might still be prosecuted. When such a case happens, you will need to hire a criminal defense lawyer to represent you in court.

As we all know, lawyers can be expensive and CCW Safe has no limit to how much they will be covering for your criminal defense expenses. Having unlimited legal defense for criminal cases is a big deal.

Unlimited Civil Defense Coverage

In cases where you’ve been found ‘not guilty’ as your defense is justified, you may still have to defend yourself against lawsuits from the person you’ve shot, their family members, or others.

Defending from these lawsuits can be expensive despite not being criminal cases and as such, CCW Safe also provides unlimited civil defense coverage to its members.

What is Civil Defense Liability?

In the case where you’ve lost your civil lawsuit, you will most likely end up having to pay for ‘damages’ to the plaintiff. While CCW Safe does not limit the defense coverage, they do have a limit for the amount of damages they’ll pay, which is up to $1,500,000 for now.

Fret not as this should be more than enough for most Civil Defense Liability cases.

Up Front Money?

Most of the time, members will require financial assistance with legal fees as they do not have hundreds of thousands of dollars sitting in the bank to pay such fees despite the possibility of being reimbursed afterwards. As such, CCW Safe can provide the money upfront for you if necessary.

Bail

I’m sure nobody wants to stay in jail until your trial is over and as such, you’re going to need bail coverage too. Lucky for you, CCW Safe will be providing up to $1,500,000 for bail bond funding. This will be one of the highest amount among all ‘CCW Insurance Companies’..

Per Diem

As you attend your trials, there is a high likelihood that you will be unable to work for weeks or even months. In doing so, it will do pretty significant damage on your finances. This is perhaps one of the most important coverage that you want to have from your CCW Insurance provider.

Good news for you is that CCW Safe will be paying you a ‘per diem’ allowance of up to $1,000 a day. This daily allowance will be able to keep you afloat as you attend your trials.

Cons

Limited Extra Training and Resources

Unlike USCCA, CCW Safe does not provide as much additional training and resources. If your priority is not legal coverage but to level up on your CCW knowledge, then CCW Safe may not be the best option for you.

Freedom to Pick Own Lawyer, But Needs To be Approved

Although it allows you to pick your attorney, all attorneys need to be approved by CCW Safe first. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a clause inserted to prevent any possible abuse of legal fees by malicious parties.

How Does CCW Safe Compare to Other Insurance Options?

When it comes to legal defense coverage with no limits for criminal and civil defense, CCW Safe should be your number one option.

Although there are some other ‘CCW Insurance Companies’ that also offer no coverage limits, they do lack on other important features that CCW Safe provides. These include having your money upfront, freedom to select your own lawyer, and a daily per diem allowance.
